Latvian Visitor centre+ bridge 2019
The Interdisciplinary project seeks to create circulation and an enhanced sense of national identity in a new entrance to Latvian National Park . The site has an underlying circulation issue due to the high traffic road that cuts through the site 5m below ground level, creating an immediate disconnect. Resolving this disconnect took the form of an elegant cable-stayed bridge, consisting of a tall A-frame steel pylon stretching back into the site as it towers above. This triumphant modernity is mirrored on the site's opposing side with a timber framed, thatch-clad visitor centre that reflects Latvian traditions and forms. The creation of the two elements creates an important space between, that enhances the sense of journey on the site.
