A summer to design, a week to construct! Our "Future By Design" Live build has conveniently been assembled within Scotland's Climate Action Week, as well as marking the six week run up to the 26th UN climate change conference of the parties (COP26)
This temporary structure is to house open door events, serving as a teaching facility and speaking space for Helensburgh's "Cove Park Artists Residency" We wanted to create a space that represents important messages of climate action and sustainable agendas in Scotland's local community's and industry. To tackle such an agenda we divided the scope into specific aspects; The Gridshell, Mycelium Panels, Terraforming and Planting strategies.
Cove Park brung together Ghanaian-Filipino agrowaste designer Mae-ling Lokko @maelokko and Scottish architect Tom Morton of Arc Architects @arcarchitects to collaboratively design a hybrid, eco-sustainable and accessible ‘open landscape classroom’ on the 50-acre site where Cove Park resides. We worked in collaboration as multidisciplinary cohort of young people from across Scotland, including students from the Mackintosh School of Architecture in Glasgow, and the interdisciplinary Design Lab at Ashesi University in Accra, to co-design and co-programme a space that is conducive to knowledge exchange around the impacts of climate change on water – an urgent issue in both countries.
