The Architectural Heritage Society of Scotland encourages the protection, preservation, study and appreciation of buildings across the nation.
I am currently the youngest serving board member of Strathclyde Group committee of the Architecture Heritage Society Scotland (AHSS)( three years). The society consists of people interested in the promotion and preservation of Scotland's built environment. The regional committees comprise, amongst others, chartered architects, planners and surveyors.
My role in the Glasgow case panel is to respond to local planning applications and proposed developments from small scale window alterations to world famous theatres and galleries.
With up to seven cases per week, I will analyse a proposal from the surveyors' reports and the architects' drawings / design statements before concluding and taking the result forward for panel discussion and final decisions. We will either approve, suggest improvements or send a letter of rejection on each case of change within the city bounds.
Despite the vital work we do to conserve Glasgow and its buildings, this is purely voluntary work on my part.
